Per omnia secula seculorum
sondrweg:
Always remember that the past was a lie, that memory has no return, that every spring gone by could never be recovered, and that the wildest and most tenacious love was an ephemeral truth in the end.

My safe word is “PrezBo”.

Just came back from seeing The Fighter with the Zhao brothers. Christian Bale proves once again to be both masterful and dedicated to his acting. Amy Adams looked really sexy but was more of a prop character. The boxing scenes were intense, engaging, and made me want to start watching boxing matches / take up boxing.
I got just as worked up when the cop smashed Bale’s knuckles with a baton,...

Miriam wanted me to get her some fruit from OK Mart. I had a craving for Sprite so I decided to go. My face just confirmed for me that there is still a blizzard right now.

The Tweedster does not fuck with Foucault. This isn’t University Writing, son.

Study Confirms That Fox News Makes You Stupid →
Dear Fox News: Please thrust with great vigor a French baguette and a jumbo pack of Duracell AA batteries into your vacuous rectum!
Yet another study has been released proving that watching Fox News is detrimental to your intelligence. World Public Opinion, a project managed by the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland, conducted a survey of...

– Bill Bryson, Chapter 6 of The Mother Tongue. I read this right after Miriam and I talked about Said and Orientalism. Seriously, Bryson? This book was published in 1990, but one would think you wrote it in 1890!

Butler Bingo: Fall 2010 Edition →
Culled from Bwog:
Originally, Bingo was a lottery game called “Il Giuoco del Lotto d’Italia” invented and played in Italy around 1530. Usually, Bingo is a game played by your great aunt. Today, Bingo is a game that will make your procrastination dreams come true.
Here’s how to play: sit in Butler. Look at the game board. Scroll over each square to read its description. Look around you....

Orientals and Ottomans?
Miriam: No one self-identifies as an "Oriental". "Oriental" is a word the colonizers used for the colonized. It's just another term for the "Other". Orientals are rugs, NOT people.
Me: But what about the Ottomans?

Dr. Nicholas Rush is, by far, my favorite character on Stargate Universe. Especially after his brilliance and badassery in Episode 8 of Season 2.

The modus operandi of WikiLeaks is akin to that of asymmetrical warfare employed by terrorists, but on an information level. Lacking in formal power structure and military power, terrorists target civilians and non-combatants to undermine the legitimacy and influence of states. Likewise, WikiLeaks targets civilians by exposing them, not to bullets and bombs that soldiers face in Iraq and...

This morning, I waited for the bus to the city in the freezing cold. Watched three buses drive by because they were full. Finally boarded the 195X, but didn’t have any cash on me. My dad didn’t have any change for my bus ticket, but the bus driver let me ride for free. Passed out into a fitful nap on the bus ride into the city. By the time the bus pulled into Port Authority, I was...

Art is bourgeois.
That is, “art” as a commercially viable institution. It’s confetti-fodder for the corporate-operated capitalist machinery. It’s ego-Astroglide for the weak, mundane, superficial, consumer-cattle as they fill a gaping hole in their otherwise banal existence with something body temperature. Real art does not aspire to be art, or artistic, while...
