The Skin I Live In is a Spanish film directed by Pedro Almodóvar, starring Antonio Banderas and the beautiful Elena Anaya. It’s currently playing at Lincoln Plaza Cinema as well as other independent movie theaters in New York City. The Skin I Live In might play out like a drama, but it feels like a horror film. Concepts of identity, gender, and family are thrown into madness and perversity. The horror we feel is initially directed at the characters and developments of the movie, only to later to be directed inward at ourselves. It is a horror that is deeply unsettling, challenging, and personal.
