Senior citizens from Hunan province perform their cover of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance during the Mid-Autumn Festival. I was about to joke that while the melody remains Lady Gaga, the lyrics had been changed to be about Confucian values of filial piety. Then I saw the translation of the lyrics, and realized I wasn’t far off. They’re singing about how young people seem too busy with work or too enamored with pop culture to spend time with their seniors, so they have to “Go Gaga” (a play on “Gaga”, which means “Grandma” in the Hunan dilect) to get their attention.
