The Children's Aid Society →

New York Magazine’s Charity Guide named The Children’s Aid Society as one of its top picks for last year: The Children’s Aid Society strives to improve the lives of the 120,000 families it serves annually with recreation programs, academic tutoring, and medical resources. Charity Navigator, which evaluates the financial responsibility of non-profit organizations, has given Children’s Aid four out of four stars for the past ten years. This is because Children’s Aid commits an impressive 91 cents of every dollar that is donated directly to programs and services for children. Join my personal project of monthly philanthropic giving by making a donation.

I used to go to the Children’s Aid after-school programs at their Philip Coltoff Center at Greenwich Village when I was in elementary school. I remember drinking apple juice and eating graham crackers after school, and learning chess, pottery, and photography. This donation marks the halfway point and $150 given to charities so far: New York Public Library in June, Citymeals-on-Wheels in July, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in August, Henry Street Settlement in September, CouchSurfing.org in October. I have been giving $25 to a non-profit organization every month so that I would have donated $300 to various charities and causes by the end of the fiscal year.
